Captain, are you reading this? Captain?
Where did this shit come from?
1978 with 1977 Betty Style sound?
A 1973 He's Gone in the middle of a Late 78 show?
A show with a pristine Scarlet Fire and ALSO a flawless, jammed-out He's Gone?
A drums that actually is enjoyable, like a real live drum solo?

WHAT THE F**K

Tigerbolt, I just can't believe this. Yesterday, I walked the streets thinking, "Yeah, my favorite band is more than a band it's sort of a magical miracle factory of a thousand shows." But I wasn't expecting this kind of miracle!!! I just have to keep readjusting my expectations of the God-blessed Dead...their music is more than can be described by words.

I swear by the Scarlet > Fire in that show. It is an eternally infallible smile-bringer for me. Great werewolves, too, with Phil behaving weirdly.

As a heads-up to all passerby, you should all listen to at least the Sugaree, the Stagger Lee, the S>F, the He's Gone, the 15-min Other One, or the Round&Round of that show....any one of theswe will prove to you that it is Really a standout, especially for 1978.

Man, I was a little skeptical when I read your review until I DL'd this show and played it on some good headphones..This show is simply AMAZING!! Five Stars for sound quality and about ten stars for performance! easily one of the best from ANY year! The Sugaree is sublime and the Tennessee Jed is stupifyingly great. Many folks don't like Jed but this sucker is beyond the pale. Even if you THINK you don't like Tennessee Jed, give this one a listen! A Tennessee Jed played IN TENNESSEE, (Music City no less.) Jerry sings this one with much passion, and is clearly getting off singing this one for the good folks in Tennessee. Honey come quick with the Eye-O-Dine!!
The Scarlet/Fire is insanely jammed out. Listen to the transition jam on this one, hell, listen to the whole thing! The jamming will peal your scalp back. The song is sung with much deliberation, not too fast and not too slow. One of the all time versions. Next up is a blazing Samson and after that is what I feel to be the true highlight, a He's Gone for the ages man! The group singing at the end will send chills up your spine! It goes on and on, building and building until you feel like your brain will explode! THIS VERSION MUST BE HEARD! Put on some good headphones and check this show out...you won't be sorry!

There are people who don't like Tenessee Jed? How can this be? Do they not hear the verse:

I ran into Charley Phogg
He blacked my eye and he kicked my dog
My dog he turned to me and he said
Let's head back to Tennessee, Jed

Get's me every time.

The show they put on in Nashville in April wasn't bad either! I was at this one and it was great too. Fantastic Wharf Rat well worth checking out.
